No sleeplessness here, Ian had us up & at em by 8am,
Our hotel...
First stop The Mono Rail to the space needle, We paid our money & headed for the Observation deck.
The space needle was built for the worlds fair & offers panoramic views of the city skyline, Elliott bay, Union lake & Mount Rainier in the far distance, Sadly the persistant cloud made long range viewing impossible.
Next stop the wacky "duck ride"
We joined our fellow riders on our tour bus for 90 mins of scenic fun with our pirate dressed driver Cap'n Walk De Plank..He gave us his unique guided tour through the various down/up town districts..
we saw the coffee shop featured in the series Frazier, the Triangle house, Historic docks & civic landmarks.
We approached the Union lake & abandoned land for water! The vehicle entered the lake & we powered off for a water tour. we saw the house on the water featured in sleepless the movie ( for sale currently for 2.2 mil )
finally after many sing alongs, duck based jokes & mexican waves to passing pedestrians the tour ended.
We walked / took a cab to Pioneer Square for a historic tour beneath the pavements!.
The city business area was built on tide flats & often flooded, in the 1880's a massive fire destroyed the lot. Dirt & rock was brought down from the surrounding bluffs to raise the road surfaces 12-30 ft. the project took 12 yrs & the merchants began rebuilding their businesses way b4 the roads were completed, meaning the lower stories were lost, once pavements were built to bridge the gaps.
Very little remains, but we were treated to a history lesson by Dave , our knowledgable guide.
Back at our Luxury hotel & time to test the beautiful pool & spa area. Nathan had laid out our swim suits & we enjoyed an hour there, before getting ready for dinner back at the space needle,
Once again we travelled the 10 mph lift & saw a twilight view of the city from the observation deck b4 being shown to our table in the rotating restaurant.
The entire floor rotates fully every 47 mins.
The spectacle was awesome, we enjoyed a bottle of Pinot gris from Oregan & some delicous food.
Ian had his usual half a cow, Min a small steak & garlic mash, I enjoyed prawn & crab pasta.
Desert was chosen, a lunar landing..Ice cream served on dry ice ..WOW! & suprise suprise our Desert was paid for by the Concierge at our hotel the waitress informed us, What a lovely gesture, This earned poor old Jonathan a peck on the cheek from me upon our return by taxi late into the night.
