Day 11 - Fort Bragg to Chateau by Caves

Pickfords have nothing on us for packing & shifting..Out by 9am & on the coast highway, not quite as gut wrenchingly roller coaster as yesterday, but the Mist once again shrouds the
sea, Creating an eerie view.

We made good time & followed a scenic route through the Giant Redwood forest, we stopped on
the way to play on fallen logs, we estimated 1 to have in excess of 800 rings!

Next The "Drive thru Redwood" wow 2400 years in the growing & we get to squash our 4x4 thru a gap in the trunk!

We stopped for lunch at the Route 1 WI-FI cafe ( what a dump ) but they make a
good burger.
Ian entrusted me to a couple of hours driving, The route was relatively simple till the
asscent to our Chateau at the caves, speed being regularly reduced to 15mph to accomodate
the winding turns & sheer drops..Ian informs me I need another laundry opportunity???
The Chateau was constructed in 1934 & retains all of its old world glory, including 3
flights of redwood stairs to our attic rooms , overtooking magnificent redwood treetops.
I write to you dear reader from our dinner table. 1930's music swirls around us in the
gloomy dining room...Georges brother " Peter" is our host he's 85ish & may prove to have
been built with the hotel, However my chicken Caesar, mins kids meal & Ians Steak, Washed
down with Coors Light is certainly fresh!
Yet another magical day in The USA..Goodnight from the 3 bears x x x
